Professor - Executive Director of Counseling and Health
Health related quality of life, psychosocial predictors of back surgery outcomes, psychological functioning
I became the Executive Director of CAPS and Student Health and Wellness within USU's Division of Student Affairs in the spring of 2019. My primary responsibilities include overseeing the day-to-day functioning of both CAPS and the Student Health and Wellness Center. I am also responsible for developing a strategic plan for optimizing mental health services for USU students and am a participating member of the Utah Board of Regents' Mental Health Advisory Committee. I came to this administrative role after 22 years in academia and eight years as a Psychology Training Clinic Director. I am a full professor within USU's Combined Clinical/Counseling Psychology PhD Program. My clinical interests are in primary care, health psychology, and behavioral medicine. I currently supervise graduate practicum students at USU's Student Health and Wellness Center and Brigham City Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation Program. Although I still actively participate in research committees and other department programming, I am not currently accepting applications for new students. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, triathlons, and spending time with my wife and three children.
