I am working with Dr. Timothy Shahan in the basic behavioral processes lab. Broadly, my research focuses on how Pavlovian conditioning influences instrumental responding in rats and pigeons. I’m interested in how animals use Pavlovian stimuli to adaptively (and sometimes maladaptively) guide their way to biologically relevant recourses such as food. I’m also interested in how these Pavlovian stimuli come to exert a motivational influence on instrumental responding. The contribution of Pavlovian stimuli to instrumental responding reveals important insights into role of basic behavioral processes in complex behavioral disorders in humans, such as drug addiction.
